Interview Prep: Going the Extra Mile

A practical approach to interview preparation that goes beyond the basics—learning by doing and investing time wisely.

Interview Prep: Going the Extra Mile

Recently, I had this cool opportunity to interview with a company doing some neat stuff in feature toggling and A/B testing. Just wanted to share a little about how I prepped for it – might give you some ideas for your next big interview.

Deep Dive

Instead of just skimming through the company's landing page or checking out salaries on Glassdoor, I decided to get my hands dirty. I signed up for their platform, hooked up their feature toggle solution to my personal website (check it out at ivojr.com), and really got into it. This helped me grasp what sets them apart from the competition and form my own opinions on the user and dev experience.

Time Well Spent

Guess what? This whole thing took me just an hour or two. And the payoff was huge: I went into the interview feeling way more confident, got to learn a cool new tool (definitely handy for future projects), and even added a slick new feature to my website.

A Thought

It got me thinking about how we prepare for interviews. I bet most folks don't go this far, maybe just a quick glance at the company's website at most. Although I didn't end up moving forward with them, the experience was super insightful.

Final Thoughts

I'd encourage you all to try something similar. Put in that extra effort not just to impress but to learn and grow. Every interview is a chance to broaden your horizons, no matter the outcome.

And you, how far will you go to be ready for the next opportunity?
